I’m a sentimental sort. Thinking back to my Mom’s gardens when I was little. The flowers that I’m able to remember are quite special to me. Nearly all of them don’t fit into what I select for my gardens now. Natives have become a main focus in choosing what gets planted at my cabin. That was not given much thought years ago.
Rose campion (Lychnis coronaria) is one of the flowers that comes to mind. Those gardens in our yard, giving Mom such pleasure. Cheverly Manor.
I’m sure the fact that Rose Campion was from northern Africa, southern Europe and the Middle East never occurred to Mom. She was going with her heart, designing her gardens in a way that spoke to her sense of garden design. Now I’m adding sentimentality to what is important to me, along with natives.

you’re sposed to do that. A world devoid of reflection is a charred one.,
Thanks Ken, with things that are pleasant, I love looking back.
So glad you read my posts!

Hi Bren::
This was also a part of my mom’s garden in NJ. It moved to CT with me. I knew it as “lamb’s ears” because of the soft, furry leaves. I did not bring it nor buy it when I came down in 1998, but somehow I find it poking up in gardens and in mowed areas so it must be birds doing their dispersal thing.
What an appropriate name for such a pleasantly fuzzy leafed plant! And what a surprise you must have had for the “lamb’s ears” to show up in your garden. I’m enjoying, at least so far, how mine are “planting” themselves independently of my thoughts in various places. I can imagine at some point I’ll intervene. But not now.
I sure enjoy “chatting” with you! Thanks bunches for reading and replying to my posts!
