Going through my photos this evening, thinking of my Dad on his birthday. He would have been 98. His favorite flower, the sunflower. He grew some pretty spectacular sunflowers. One year he grew one so tall that to get a photograph of the flower and the grower, my Mom got him to climb a ladder so she could get the image. These, were posing for me in Vermont.

I think about my father in the same way. Question, the purple dead head (?) growing now, should it be pulled in our flower gardens? I know it dies off but does it interfere with flowers coming up? Thanks.
Hi Barry! Ah, the memories of Dad! I hope you have many good ones.
With your plant question, I assume that you’re speaking of Purple Dead-nettle (Lamium purpureum). Growing now, for sure! Turning fields a beautiful purple. But it is not native and grows like crazy! I wouldn’t want Purple Dead-nettle growing in any of my flower gardens. I try very hard to only grow natives, though I must admit that sentimentality often comes into play.
Barry, thanks bunches for reading my posts!

Yes, thanks. Something else to pull. They are everywhere.
Or, Barry, using one of my Dad’s favorie words – they are ubiquitous!
