A Neighbor’s Visit

What a delightful surprise this evening to see a Black Bear (Ursus americanus), stopping by for a visit. A young one, but old enough to be out and independent, a teenager. I was pleased to see it looking quite healthy, with no signs of sarcoptic mange. Excellent!

As I saw it nibbling on this green spear, I thought, “You don’t really want to eat that Yucca (Yucca filamentosa), do you? No, I didn’t think so.”

It let me get several photographs, then it was time for me to raise up my arms and yell. Get outa here! Be GONE! And it was indeed, gone in a flash!

    • Hi Bonny!
So very handsome for sure – and HEALTHY! I’ve been so concerned about the bears here in this area. There haven’t been ANY. And this one is looking like it didn’t have any mange at all. Hooray!

And I haven’t been feeding the birds, except for the Ruby-throated Hummingbirds (on the second story porch) which is keeping me really busy. They’ve been consuming 1/2 gallon of syrup every day! I won’t start putting out the bird seed until the birds have settled down for their winter slumber.

Thanks so very much for reading my posts!

    • Hi Joanne!
I was so pleased to see this bear. It’s been so long since I’ve seen a HEALTHY bear, and this one looked quite healthy. No sign of mange at all. Hooray! I’ve not been feeding the birds and will wait until the bears are in their winter slumber before I start putting on the bird seed again. I do love the bears, but I don’t want them around TOO MUCH!

Thanks bunches for reading my posts!
