A bit more than a month ago I saw seven Bluebirds (Sialia sialis) gathered at the birdbath. They were enjoying the water which was not frozen on a very cold day.
Not any since then until today when I caught a quick glimpse of just one. Just checking things out I suppose. Hoping more will show up again soon.
When I’m watching please.

Great photo! Our bluebirds usually stay around all winter. They did disappear in early winter for a few weeks. I give them (dried) meal worms everyday at their nest box. They also enjoy eating suet. I thought we were done with freezing temperatures at night, but I put out the birdbath heater again yesterday. We’re in for some very cold weather and even snow again for the second time this winter. Take care, Bren.
Hi Diane!
So good to hear from you! I can count on seeing Bluebirds during the winter but they wander – here for a few days and they take off again to return in a short bit of time. I’m not as dedicated to feeding one particular type of bird since bears tend to show up even in the middle of winter and tear down any feeder that is up on a pole. Very frustrating.
This winter has been extraordinary compared to the past many. Much more snow and extremely cold temperatures. I just went out to bury the compost. What a silly thing to do. I figured that since there was a clear path with no snow between the back door and the compost it was a good time to get it done. BUT the ground was totally frozen solid!
Hoping you are well and thank you for reading my posts.
