Black Oak Pie

Though it IS December, and there is talk of a bit of snow in the higher elevations, it’s STILL autumn. Autumn has inspired the decorative top of my apple pie. The leaf of a Black Oak (Quercus velutina).

The Black Oak has alternate leaves which are a shiny, rich dark green on the top side. It’s under side is brown, leaning toward yellow. The bark of a mature tree has a blackish coloring, which is reflected in its common name.

Next pie? Surely Christmas inspired!

  1. That apple/oak pie sure looks delish! The oak leaf is a really nice way to enhance the appearance of the pie, too.

  2. Hi Merry! When inspiration hits, I’ve gotta act on it!

  3. Everyone is really looking forward to being together for Christmas! We will have John for six days, and will LOVE seeing him interact with his nephews. John and Connor (age 3) are an absolute scream together! Owen (age 7 mos) is doing really well, and I know John will enjoy him too.

    • This is going to be an extra special holiday for everyone. Even for us, we’re still getting used to the wonderfulness of having Kevin, Andrea, and Lydia just an hour south of us!

And my decoration – I go with whatever pops into my brain as I’m putting the pie together. When I don’t do something special, I’m always disappointed!

Thanks bunches dear friend for reading my posts!

    • Thanks bunches Diane! I’m always disappointed with myself if I don’t decorate the top of a pie in some way, so long as it’s the kind of pie that can be decorated.

Wishing you the best during the holidays and thank you so much for reading my posts!
