More formally known as a Yellow-rumped Warbler (Setophaga coronata). A black, white and gray bird accented with that lovely bright buttery color. A bird that shows up at my birdbath occasionally during the winter. I’m patiently waiting, hoping one will make an appearance. Often it is mid-February when I’m able to capture a photograph.
This image was taken February 15, 2018, as this little creature was taking a break in a marcescent White Oak tree.

Last Oct on the Eastern Shore I became heavily familiar with this wonderful bird. I have had seen them around episodically but since my formal intro last year they are remarkably common this year in Southern Culpeper County. I love the term, Butter Butt. Thanks for sharing this.
Hi Ken!
I’m so very glad to hear that the Butterbutts are common this year in your neighborhood! That’s wonderful. I’m hoping soon I’ll see at least one before spring comes. And, yes that name, “Butterbutt” is a good one!
Thanks bunches for reading my posts and keeping in touch with your comments!
