Enjoying New Year’s Day With A Tufted Titmouse

I’m enjoying the first day of 2023 with my green tea, in a mug that was given to me by a treasured friend. A mug with a Tufted Titmouse gracing front and back.

And appropriately I’m making notes on the birds that I’m seeing out my windows, coming by for the seeds that I’ve put out. The Tufted Titmouse (Baeolophus bicolor) is one of the busiest birds out there. At any given moment I probably see 5 of them, taking one seed at a time and vanishing with it before its return. During the year the Tufted Titmouse eats seeds and insects. They’re here at my cabin year round.

A successful species, they are expanding their territory further north, and according to numbers compiled thanks to citizen science reports, are also increasing their population in their traditional territory.

A tiny bird that is not shy when I’m out refilling the feeders. Greeting me with their song of peter-peter-peter.

Thank you for all the Beauty and Wisdom you shared throughout this last year. Many, like this one, particularly resonate with me as statements of what I also hold true. Every morning I choose my “mug du jour” aware of where it came from and what that moment meant to me, from a friend or a journey, but always evoking love and caring.

    • Ah Julie! So wonderful to know that we share so much. I’m surrounded by nature here at my cabin with so many animals as my neighbors and friends. Fortunately too, I do go into town for yoga classes and Spanish classes, so I do have human friends as well! All my friends are so important to me.

I thank you for reading my posts and I hope your 2023 is particularly wonderful for you.
