Nature is full of surprises, like these galls that I found on a wild grapevine. They’re grape tube galls, created by a midge, Schizomyia viticola. The midge lays eggs on the leaf and the gall is the plant’s reaction to it. Actually there is very little damage done to the grapevine, and these galls are rarely found in vineyards. Amazing.

I learn so much great information from you. This is very interesting. I’ve seen something similar on a tree in my yard. Not sure what kind of tree. The ones I see are whiteish green. Thank you once again.
Hi Diane! I’m so pleased to know that I’m helping you learn about nature! Actually, I’m just one step ahead of you. I take tons of photographs when I’m out, and come back to my computer to figure out what in the world I’ve got. I’m learning new things every single day, and it’s such FUN! A thought, if you’re interested in getting identification of the galls you have. Google “galls light-green”, enter that and then click on “images” and see if there’s anything similar to yours.
Diane, thanks bunches for reading my post. I enjoy hearing from you!
