Thanks to series of solar flares and coronal mass ejections from the sun I was able to go out and capture an image of the Northern lights (aurora borealis) tonight. A rare treat for central Virginia!
That bright star you see nearly at the center of the picture is Vega.

Hi Bonnie, some in Florida are seeing the Northern Lights, although one must use their camera to really see it. When I got my pictures the sky was just a tiny bit brighter than it might be normally – just enough that I was thinking it was my imagination. My son, Kevin, was getting pictures an hour south of us and I figured if he could get pictures of it maybe I could. And I did get pictures! I’ve heard that tonight it might be happening too, but haven’t checked. I will before I head up to bed!
