Often Considered A Weed

Ah, yes. THAT weed! Not one I’m particularly concerned about. No threat of bringing precious trees down as is the case with some other invasives.

This one reminds me of my Dad who seemed to take it upon himself to rid the world of as many Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) plants in his yard and that of friends and neighbors as he could.

This species of the Dandelion is originally from Eurasia and was introduced to North America in the mid-1600s. Brought to this continent by settlers hoping to grow it as a crop for food and medicine.

For me and my yard, not a plant that I’m going to worry about. There are many more horrible weeds out there to be concerned about. Dandelions? No big deal.

  1. You know how much I love the photographs you’ve taken of various dandelions!
They don’t look great in our lawn, but they are pretty, all the same!

  2. When I read the other day that hummingbirds use the fluffy seeds to line their nests, I decided they are beneficial and pretty. They can stay.

    • Hi Diane! What a wonderful thought – a hummingbird nest lined with fluffy Dandelion seeds. I love the thought! Thanks for sharing it!

And thank you so much for reading my posts!

  3. I too can picture my dad in the yard with his dandelion puller. One year he decided to make dandelion wine! That was awful!

    • Oh Bonny! Such memories of our Dads! How wonderful. My husband Bill, years ago tried making dandelion wine too! Also not good!!

Hoping things are good down there! And wishing you a lovely Easter!

Thanks for reading my posts, my dear friend from a while ago!!!
