Badwing Moth (Dyspteris abortivaria)
Native to eastern North America. Its caterpillar host plants are various grape species. The moth has a wingspan of about an inch. Tiny. The moth is active from mid-April until August.
Here it seems May is a good time to find one. I have several images of Badwings in various years, in May. This particular picture was taken two days ago. Very small and lovely to see in its enchanting color.

There were Swallowtails galore out on the weekend, up at the Wildlife Management Area at Graves Mill. They were puddling in several places, dozens of them. Wonderful to see. Now if I was as good with a camera as you are…..
Hi Jackie! Glad you were able to enjoy the butterflies as they were puddling. Isn’t nature awesome! And as for “as good with a camera” — when Kevin was little I told him to take TONS of pictures and surely ONE will be a good one. That is my approach to photography!
So very glad that you read my blog posts!
