Perplexing Bumble Bee

Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) is in full bloom right now delighting bees and butterflies up and down the mountainsides. In this photo, a beautiful bright yellow Perplexing Bumble Bee (Bombus perplexus) is enjoying the nectar that Common Milkweed provides.

  1. Bren, We have been seeing honey bees on our milkweeds! I’m so excited!

    • Hi Bev! So good to hear from you. It certainly is exciting to see honey bees out and about. I’ve been astounded to see them here, in the middle of nowhere. Little bees that belong in someone’s hive, or maybe they’ve escaped and are living on their own totally independent. How wonderful that they’ve come by to visit with you. They sure must appreciate you putting out milkweed for them.

Thanks bunches for reading my posts.

  2. my milkweed is eye high 1.5m (ha first time I ever used meters as a measure), anyway, beautiful, just awesome. I’m observing the flowers turning to hard little nuggets and falling off whilst others turn to miniature seed pods. I’ve seen all this before but still haven’t fathomed the process… none the less, everything is moving along on schedule and is magnificent to watch, the butterflies are very sparse, in fact, only seen one monarch this year and haven’t seen any eggs or caterpillars very worried…. thanks for posting the Tendrils notes, I find them rewarding, refreshing and readable.
