My Dad was totally into recycling and composting before they were even a thing. When I was little he was often out back burying kitchen scraps in the compost, and mention a scout troop doing a newspaper collection for recycling, he was on board helping out. Later, after he retired, he volunteered at recycling centers to help others as they brought things in, and to keep the recycling centers tidy.
I’ve followed his example doing my best to recycle whenever it is possible and keeping that good old compost going. For the past many months the compost has been like concrete when I’ve gone out to bury something. Now though, thanks to a few good rains and some snow a couple days ago, it is pure pleasure to go out and bury those kitchen scraps.
I’m trying to help this planet continue to support us. Not necessarily to “save” it, since it’s going to be around for billions of years with or without us. But our planet, Earth, really needs us to treat it gently and carefully so that it will continue supporting us.

Yes! Well stated.
Hi John,
Thanks so very much. I feel so strongly about that. I hear people all the time saying, “We’ve got to save the planet.” Wrong. It is going to go on and on and on, with us or without us.
Thanks BUNCHES for reading my posts.
Wishing you happy holidays!
