White-throated Sparrows (Zonotrichia albicollis), winter residents here, have arrived. This picture was taken two days ago, as this critter freshened up at the bird bath.
This particular species of sparrow is the most frequently seen and most plentiful in North America. It winters principally in eastern and southern North America and California, and spends the breeding season in much of Canada and parts of the northeastern U.S.

We’ve been hearing them since mid-September, seeing them now too.
Hi Jackie!
I’m so very glad to have some of the winter birds arriving. One season after another with “new” birds, winter and summer! What a treat!
Thanks so very much for reading my posts!
Clem
thanks for reporting these first of the season observations. The white throats also showed up at my house in Southern Culpeper County a few days later , perhaps 9 Nov 2024. Your posting alerted me to pay more attention. Presently waiting for the Juncos to arrive. thanks for your posts.
